Philanthropy

BIOTRONIK has a strong tradition of giving to philanthropy, and is actively engaged in local, national and international charity. Not only does BIOTRONIK consider giving to communities and patients in-need as part of our corporate responsibility as a member of the global community, but a sincere and compassionate reflection of our belief in 'excellence for life'.

Strategic partnership with Heartbeat International Foundation
The current highlight of our philanthropic activity is our strategic partnership with Heartbeat International Foundation (HBI), a global charity dedicated to providing much-needed heart devices to indigent patients.

There are one million - and possibly as many as three million - people who die each year because they cannot afford a pacemaker or ICD. The partnership between HBI and BIOTRONIK is dedicated to bringing those numbers down.

HBI has been the global leader in providing devices that treat cardiac arrhythmias of economically disadvantaged patients, combatting the world’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease, 82% of which originates in low and middle-income countries.

In 2010, BIOTRONIK committed to provide life-saving devices to 1,000 patients by 2013 through its partnership with HBI. BIOTRONIK has surpassed this Milestone nearly a year ahead of schedule, delivering more than 1,000 pacemakers and ICDs to patients in need in nearly 20 countries until today.

HBI has been in the business of saving lives in the poorest corners of the world since its founding 25 years ago. Patients in some of the most impoverished areas of for example Pakistan, Honduras, Benin, Venezuela, Kenya, Guatemala, Trinidad, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Philippines, Thailand, India and China have benefited from HBI’s efforts – some selected success stories can be found in the right column.

HBI was selected as our philanthropy partner because they are an admirable organization who we are honored to support in their ongoing efforts to save lives. As a company that is known for its dedication to patients’ health, we see it as our duty to advance initiatives that also give economically disadvantaged patients access to life-saving, high quality care.
