Buelach, Switzerland (15 January 2008). BIOTRONIK announced today the launch of Astron Pulsar in Europe. With these products BIOTRONIK completes the portfolio for endovascular treatment of the Below-The-Knee vessels (BTK).
The endovascular treatment of CLI (Critical Limb Ischemia) patients is improving, thanks to the growing awareness surrounding limb salvage; the higher incidence of diabetic disease with related vascular pathology and the enhanced treatment options.
PAOD (Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease) is diagnosed in up to 12% of the population > 50 years. In western countries the population group of people >65 years will nearly double in the next 30 years. Around 10% of symptomatic PAOD patients suffer from CLI.
Astron Pulsar is a next generation thin strut nitinol stent with PROBIO® (Silicon Carbide) coating dedicated for infra-popliteal stenting with a dedicated range of diameters and lengths.
Astron Pulsar is an over-the-wire system compatible with 4 F sheath and 0.018” guidewire. The range of dedicated 4mm diameters and lengths up to 80mm defines a new standard for the treatment of very challenging cases in tibiopereoneal vessels.
Dedicated peripheral device platforms, both on over-the-wire and fast-exchange delivery systems are now available, with small device diameters and long length balloons for infrapopliteal angioplasty and low profile stent systems completing the device portfolio for endovascular treatment.
“This new portfolio”, says Alain Aimonetti, Vice President of BIOTRONIK Vascular Intervention, “creates a milestone in the endovascular treatment of patients with CLI (Critical Limb Ischemia) offering the interventionalist a variety of therapy options for limb salvage.”
